Bull & Shrimp Roast
The annual Bull & Shrimp 'Roast'  was held on January 13th at Columbus Gardens from 8 pm -- 12:30 am.

Besides the feast of beef, steamed shrimp and lots more, there was a silent auction with lots of sports memorbilia, door prizes, wheels of chance and the big 50-50 raffle drawing (the winner walked away with over $700).  Music by a local DJ had people  dancing to a variety of tunes and just plain good times with friends.

Look for our next one around the same time (January) in 2013.  For more information ,  contact Christina at emtptina@aol.com.

Advanced Airway Training

Baltimore Co Fire Department Associate Trauma Surgeon Dr. Matt Belan, also a member of WMVFC, is pictured here teaching advanced airways with a new device called a Glidescope Ranger.  This training session was held at WMVFC for  volunteer and career Paramedics in Baltimore County. This video screen 'Glidescope' device makes securing difficult airways much easier and less traumatic. The device was purchased using federal grants-your tax dollars at work right back here in Baltimore County.

Members will also be receiving practical advanced training on the video airway device during a December training by Dr. David Vitberg, also a Baltimore County Fire Department  Associate Trauma Surgeon. The sessions will be held at the MD Anatomy Board lab next to Shock-Trauma.

Tower 209 leads PHH Homecoming Parade

Perry Hall High celebrated a haunting Homecoming Parade, with Tower 209 leading the parade, while carrying the PHH Principal and an Assistant Principal.

Tower 209 with White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company members Zach Adams and driver Chris Mack (PHH Class of '05) greatly enjoyed the variety of floats, groups and costumes. Zach commented he heard Chris say, "Go Gators!" more than once.

Visit Perry Hall Patch to view great pictures of the parade taken by Emily Kimball and Laura Young.

The members of White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company held a ceremony of remembrance on September 11, 2011, the 10th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on America.

We stood in front of our flag pole starting at 8:30 am  to commemorate the loss of fire/EMS responders, police, military and civilian lives as a result of the 8:46 am first and subsequent attacks. The American flag was raised to half-staff in honor of the dead, at 8:46 am sirens on Engine 202 and Medic 203 were sounded and a minute of silence was then held. Captain Rick Blubaugh recited the first verse of "God Bless America" and all assembled sang the second verse.  Citizens of the White Marsh and Perry Hall communities joined with us to celebrate the dedication and valor demonstrated that day by the many who died and left us with "Let's roll" to symbolize our American spirit. PIO James Clements, in his remarks, also lauded the many who helped that day; including the work of the construction workers who labored with other rescuers at Ground Zero for months.

Members also stood in silence at the times of the attack on the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93.

Please remember in your prayers all who died that day, those who labored at Ground Zero and our troops who insure our freedoms as Americans.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

It is with both sadness and pride the members of White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company remember the final sacrifice made by FF/PM Mark Falkenhan who was killed in the line of duty on January 19, 2011.  Mark was riding as part of Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company when he became trapped on the top floor of an apartment building during a four alarm fire.  A long time volunteer at Middle River Volunteer Rescue, retired career FF/PM in the Baltimore County Fire Department and a current emergency services provider for the U.S. Secret Service, Mark had already rescued one woman and was searching for others.

Mark left behind a wife and two children.

Rest in Peace Brother! Your duty is Done.

White Marsh Volunteers retire one of their own

On June 21, 2010, Richard Breach Sr placed his gear on his rack for the last time.  It was the 40th anniversary of his graduation from the Baltimore City Fire Academy in 1970.  Rick joined the White Marsh Vol. Fire Co. in September of 1985 and has risen through the ranks, including holding the top two operational positions; Captain and Senior Lieutenant.  He has constantly shared his knowledge on such topics as fireground hydraulics, utility management, and being a leader.  Rick was one of the members you could always turn to for help or advice.  We will miss seeing him around and we wish him good luck in everything he does, especially his golf game.  Thank you, Rick, for your many years of service.  You have helped make our community a better place to live.
